Ok. I spent quite some time deciding between reno x opposites attract or narumi x chaos. But ultimately, I think Narumi takes the cake for you.

So... dating the first division captain... definitely going to be an experience, so prepare yourself.

You’re sassy, he’s sassy; pray for anyone around you two. You give off the vibe that you would primarily flirt through being mean and insulting people. Jokes on you; Narumi does too. Although it becomes the norm for you both after a while.

“Good morning, dipshit.” After Narumi wakes up at 1pm after spending the entire night gaming.

Or “Welcome home, asshole.” After you come back from your studies or work.

Despite taunting words, his actions are the polar opposite. This man clings to you like a cat. He absolutely refuses to leave your presence, let alone leave your side. Not only that, but he’ll follow you around like a puppy; he basically never wants to leave your side.

Hates his work even more now 🤠

That is, unless you also work at the defence force. Now, typically, the JAKDF avoids relationships in the same division. But this is Captain Narumi’s relationship we’re talking about. If the captain wants something, he’ll get it. Of course, you wish to work in another division, but expect him to whine and sob about it until you cave and join the first division.

Working with Narumi is interesting? Hasegawa visits you a minimum of three times a day to convince Narumi to do stuff.

Queue you walking into his office for the tenth time that day with your pretty puppy eyes, asking him to go to work.

80% of the time it works. Narumi folds quick, extremely quick. One pleading look from you is almost all it takes. Although, on the off chance he’s feeling extra bratty today, that remaining 20% is him convincing you to haul up in his office with him and play video games instead.

Although I don’t think you’re much of a video game person, I also don’t think you’d be against playing games with him. Even if you despise them, I can picture you trying once or twice for him.

Queue Narumi absolutely demolishing the game while you’re trying to figure out the controls.

“It’s ok, Kiwi. Everyone starts somewhere. C’mere. I’ll help ya.” To which he proceeds to sit you on his lap while his fingers interlace with yours, helping you press the correct buttons.

To be honest, you didn’t learn much but it was a damn good experience ;)

You don’t have to be playing video games to spend time with him, though. You bask in each other's presence. Simply having the other nearby makes your days ten times better. Perhaps you’re reading a book or simply rotting on TikTok, and he’s not even a meter away from you playing his games. It’s the simple moments like that that you two love.

Oh. But don’t even try to pull out Yamazon alone. This man has a sixth sense for whenever you’re about to spend money. God forbid you do it without him.

Narumi instantly pulls you into his body/lap as you scroll together. Or he’ll even turn his PC on so you can both shop with a much larger screen.

Thank God the JAKDF pays well.

These situations may have also led to the two of you buying some interesting things ;)

SAVING THAT FOR LATER, THOUGH

Despite how immature and childish Narumi presents himself to be, it’s obvious he has a more mature side to him. Which becomes even more obvious during your relationship. I’m thinking something along the lines of character x must protect character. Trust me, Narumi certainly won’t cut the brattyness just because you two are dating. Quite the opposite, actually; I think you’ll enable him to reach even higher levels of brattyness. But the rare cases of him acting like the first division captain do increase. Especially with you around.

And outside of work too, there are now times where he has a much more mature air to him. On the very rare occasion, you’ll hear him lecture you on spending too much money and that you should keep your spending habits under control (to which he gives you his card five minutes later because he has more money and you should “spend yours on more responsible shit”). Or going out, Narumi will meticulously plan whatever outing the two of you may have. Whether its a vacation or a date, he’ll know exactly where you’re going 24/7 and will literally always have a hand on you so you won’t get lost.

On the topic of dates, they’re also one of the only times Narumi really strains himself to avoid his gaming consoles. While he may be addicted, he’s not an idiot. He knows how important quality time is for the both of you and refuses to ruin a date for a bunch of pixels. In fact, date-wise, Narumi tries his best to go all out for you.

It doesn’t matter what the two of you are doing; he’ll have bought a nice outfit for himself and you, and he’ll also make sure it matches with your nails and any other accessories you choose to wear. If he’s the one planning the date, everything will be thought out down to a T.

Though if you want to plan a date, first of all, he refuses to let you look at him because he is melting. He’ll tease you about how sweet you are, but that’s all to hide the fact that he’s taken aback by someone putting in so much effort for him.

For real though, he’s going to shoo you away (jokingly) so much because he doesn’t want you to watch him act so vulnerable.

I do think Narumi will open up to you eventually, but it will take a very long time. It’s not as though he doesn’t trust you. Quite the opposite; you’re the only one he trusts; he’s just really not used to having someone to call his own or just someone to care about him as a whole. But when he does open up to you, just sit there and listen to everything he says; even just acknowledging it and reassuring him that you’re by his side is enough for him. After that, my god, he is whipped.

You were Narumi’s first time. I refuse to believe this man cared about women physically or mentally until you came along.

Despite being a little lost, Narumi’s a fast learner. One or two times is all he needs to map out your entire body. To know where you’re sensitive or where that one spot is that makes you see stars.

HELLO I WANTED TO ASK IF U CAN DO A HAIKYUU MATCHUP FOR ME IF IT ISN'T A BOTHER <3

1. so im a girl, i go by she/her and i have a preference for guys!

2. im an introverted, shy person, but i dont really act shy around my friends (four people literally lol). i don't make friends easily, and my friends tell me it's hard to get close to me, and thats why im single lmao. i act clingy with my friends and family, but just with specific people. i would say that im a good listener and my friends always tell me that i know how to say the truth and give good advice without hurting them. i get good grades at school and im quiet in my class, i dont think my classmates even remember im there most of the time. im an aquarius, and an INTJ 5w6! i get annoyed easily but i know how to control my anger. i get anxious very easily when i need to leave my house, and i've been working that in therapy.

3. my favorite three animes are haikyuu, Shingeki no Kyojin and Kaiju no. 8! and my favorite game is Honkai Star Rail. my favorite characters from Honkai are Blade. HuoHuo and Sparkle. i like a lot of other animes, and i would say im a bit of a nerd. i like science, philosophy, art, history, poetry, music, etc. i love writing and drawing, and im always listening to music. and also i LOVE thinking and reflecting about a lot of things, even though im an overthinker. I ALSO HAVE A REALLY BIG SWEET TOOTH, I LOVE SWEETS AND BROWNIES ARE MY FAVORITE FOOD!!!!!

4. i hate loud noises, dirty things, dust, etc. and also i cant stand dumb people. u know that kind of impulsive people? people who doesn't think before acting and end up affecting others? i cant stand those. i also hate explosive people, who have aggressive behavior and scream and all that problematic stuff. and i hate bugs too, im scared and grossed out by them. i hate math and im HORRIBLE at it. i hate being the center of attention and i also hate when people im not close with touch me.

5. i have a thing for intelligent people. i would like a partner who i can grow with as a person and learn new things together. someone who doesn't take my bluntness personally, someone i can trust, spend time in silence together, someone who respects me when i need my alone time, someone who i can joke with and be me without being embarassed. i show love in every way. touch, words, gifts, quality time, acts of service, etc. and i like receiving all types too, but i have a preference for quality time. also i would love to write poems for my partner!

wow now that you said it's very true that the Leo Bros weakness are Willpower attacks since in some Leo episodes he almost died against that Gan Q green (I forgot the name)

but since this is their weakness does that mean some Younger M78 Ultras can beat them too such as 80, Neos, and Mebius?

So the context was he was asking in the dms if the UBs can easily take out the Leo Brothers and Gaia/Agul SV

Because I recalled that I did answer this qn a few years back (I rmb it was a Seven vs Leo matchup) so the answer is yes, simply because of M78 Ultras' ability to use Ultra Psychokinesis and L77 Ultras seemingly showing no resistance to psychic powers

Recall, Jack's Ultra Psychokinesis was strong enough to literally prevent a tsunami that was hundreds of meters tall

While Seven, even in his human and injured state, was able to lift an entire kaiju using it.

And the Leo Brothers have shown to have no resistance against it, as I also pointed out the same instance when Leo was easily thrown around by Alien Akumania (the green Gan Q)'s own psychic powers

Much less Gaia/Agul SV, hell even Gaia/Agul SSV stands no chance, theyre probably at most on par with movie+ forms or movie++ forms

And dont forget, Ultra Brothers are like around 1000 - 10 000x stronger than the average New Gen

So after catching everyone up to speed, lets circle back to your new question.

Tbh probably so due to the M78 Proportionality Constant, where for M78 Ultras, every 10 000 years, they get 1000 - 10 000x stronger. Even tho Mebius is 6 900 years old, while 80 and Neos are 8 000 and 8 900 years old respectively so one can argue that their Ultra Psychokinesis is still too weak compared to Jack and Seven (both 17 000 years old) to affect Leo.

Because we also dont know how Alien Akumania' own psychic powers compared to M78 Ultras of 6000-9000 yo range, its hard to say either. Especially because Alien Akumania's specialty is indeed psychic powers, strong enough to even control Gan Q, a 3D manifestation of a 4D kaiju, so we cant just easily lump him in the same scale with the average alien.

If Leo really has no resistance to psychic abilities then ya, Mebius, 80 and Neos can indeed punch above their weight and cheese the fight, but its solely due to a mismatch

8 Movie Monsters That Could Totally Beat Godzilla If I Had a Deadline At Screenrant and Needed to Write Some Clickbait

8. The T.rex from Jurassic Park - Standing 100 feet tall and weighing at least thirty pounds, the T.rex from Jurassic Park isn’t quite as big as Godzilla, but, like, she’s got teeth and shit.  Did you see how she fucked up that raptor?  She’d definitely give Godzilla a run for his money!

7. A Single Zombie - Godzilla may be bigger and stronger than a zombie, but, like, there’s a lot of them, and they’re real good at killing humans, so I think they’ve got this in the bag.

6. Baragon - a monster from the Yongary film series, this kaiju can breath fire, burrow underground, fire a rainbow colored laser from its back, AND freeze people with its extendable tongue!  This monster has never gone up against Godzilla before, but if he did he’d definitely win the fight.

5. Frankenstein - Being far taller and more durable than a man, Frankenstein would have no problem beating the absolute shit out of Godzilla.

4. Detective Pikachu - While Godzilla may have the size advantage, Pikachu can shoot lightning or whatever, and I’m pretty sure Godzilla’s never been electrocuted so that’d probably work.

3. Jason Voorhees - Robot Chicken made a whole skit about how good a matchup these two are!  There, now no one has to tell me someone else made this joke already.

2. Spider-Man - the greatest movie monster ever to grace the screen, Spider-Man is immune to radiation, so Godzilla wouldn’t stand a chance!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I just watched this movie last night, and I have felt like a little kid again all day.

1) This movie is silly. I need to say that upfront. There are a lot BS tropes and concept, and the dialogue is often very goofy.

2) None of that matters one bit because it knows what it is and is damn good at it.

3) No more dreary slog of uniteresting humans with barely any monsters in the background. The Kaiju-action starts early and doesn’t stop.

4) Incidentally, this is easily the best-looking giant monster action ever put to screen, barring maybe Pacific Rim. That Del-Toro aestethic is hard to top.

5) Also, the human characters are a lot more tolerable this time around. Ken Watanabe still sells the gravitas of a very stupid scenario and he gets a lot more to do this time. The other humans are more or less fine.

6) There is one (two?) roles especially that works great as an easter egg. And there are quite a few of those if you are a fan of the franchise.

7) It really sells that expanded lore well to. I think we may have found the next proper “cinematic universe” after Marvel and DC. I would definitely watch a movie for each of these besties. Especially...

8) Queen of the Monsters baby!

9) “What is a King to a God?” is one hell of a clever teaser and I am slightly mad that I have never thought of it myself on this context. Like, why have I never seen any fanart of that matchup with that tagline?

10) I went in thinking that I would be disappointed if they did not use a cover of that song for the end credits. I was not disappointed.

Monster Madness: Vote for Your Favorite Monsters

Every season is monster season in our hearts. But this March is a particularly good time to celebrate our enormous, scaly, and/or hairy friends. In the film world, the long-awaited Godzilla v. Kong arrives on March 31. Meanwhile on television, the final season of behemoth anime Attack on Titan is in the midst of its final season right now. Given that many of us are already primed for bracketology in March, we decided to create a bracket of our 32 favorite monsters for you, the monster-lover, to vote on. 

In honor of Godzilla, Kong, and Attack on Titan’s many titans, we’re electing only to include kaiju-style monsters on this bracket. All of these monsters must A. be their own distinct individual (not a species like “cave trolls” or “aliens”) and B. be able to knock down a building (or at least cause catastrophic structural damage). That’s why you won’t see any Universal-style monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, et. al) on our list.

 If you’re unfamiliar with how a bracket works, never fear – each round we will present monster matchups one-by-one for you to vote on via our Twitter and within this post. The rules here are simple: peruse our list of 16 matchups and vote for your favorite monster. And whether “favorite” means “which monster would win in a fight” or “which monster I like the most” is up to you. 

You can vote over at Den of Geek‘s Twitter or within this post.

Whichever monster receives the most votes will advance to the next round to face another victorious monster. This will lead to five total rounds with round 1 featuring 32 monsters, round 2 having 16, round 3 having 8, round 4 having 4, and round 5 having 2. The full voting schedule will be as follows:

With the monster rules and arena set, let’s get into the round 1 matchups!

Godzilla Region

1. Godzilla vs. 8. The Blob

You know that saying “if you come at the king, you best not miss?” Well in this monster bracket, Godzilla is the king. The big lizard is the iconic kaiju, having appeared in over 30 films and countless other bits of media. Who dares challenge his monster supremacy? The Blob. The Blob is…well, a blob. Best of luck!

2. King Ghidorah vs. 7. Destoroyah

Though Godzilla may be the king of monsters, only one kaiju is bold enough to include “King” in its name. That would be King Ghidorah. This three-headed beast first appeared in the fittingly named 1964 film King Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. He’s appeared in multiple eras of Godzilla films as an enemy to Godzilla and Mothra. Opposing Ghidorah is Destoroyah, an unholy combination of crab, insect, and bat.

3. Biollante vs. 6. Colossal Titan (Attack on Titan)

Kaiju movies are happy to turn just about anything into a terrifying monster. Case in point is the plant monster Biollante. Despite its rosy origins, Biollante is a fearsome foe to all. Meanwhile the Colossal Titan can knock down just about any wall put in front of it. He’s not the most dangerous titan in Attack on Titan, but he’s unquestionably the most iconic. 

4. Yongary vs. 5. Quetzalcoatl (Q: The Winged Serpent)

Yongary looks quite a bit like Godzilla and that’s by design. The monster was introduced in 1967’s Yongary, Monster from the Deep to rival the success of the iconic monster. Suffice it to say, Yongary did not reach Godzilla heights, but he’s still pretty cool. Its opponent Quetzalcoalt comes from the 1982 film Q: The Winged Serpent. In some ways, Quetzalcoatl is the American answer to Godzilla, drawing from Aztec myth to create a winged beast. 

King Kong Region

1. King Kong vs. 8. El Blanco (Tremors)

Only one monster can challenge Godzilla’s claim to the monster throne. And that’s the MONKE. First appearing in the 1933 film bearing his name, King Kong pre-dates Godzilla by 20 years. He comes from a simpler time where monsters could exist naturally and not as a byproduct from man’s vile nuclear experiments. King Kong rules. Trying to take the gorilla down is El Blanco, a notable graboid from the Tremors film series.

2. Mechagodzilla vs. 7. Hedorah

What could possibly take a big nuclear lizard down? The answer is so simple it’s been staring us in the face all along: a ROBOT lizard. Mechagodzilla was first depicted as an alien in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Since then he’s frequently turned up as a mechanical creation from mankind to keep Godzilla in check. And he does a decent enough job to be considered Godzilla’s archenemy. In this matchup, Mechagodzilla is opposed by Hedorah – who is just a big ol’ pile of toxic sludge. 

3. Anguirus vs. 6. The Mind Flayer (Stranger Things)

Anguirus holds the honor of being the first monster to go toe-to-toe with Godzilla in battle. It didn’t go well for the massive Ankylosaurus but that didn’t keep him from becoming a mainstay in the Toho Godzilla movies. Meanwhile, Stranger Things isn’t hurting for notable monsters, with the Demogorgon being the most well-known. It’s only season 4’s The Mind Flayer, however, who has the strength and size to compete in this tournament. 

4. Kraken (Clash of the Titans) vs. 5. Clover (Cloverfield)

The Kraken has had quite an impressive pop culture run. Who could forget Davy Jones crying “release the kraken!” in Pirates of the Caribbean? The Clash of the Titans version of this monster (both in the 1981 film and its 2010 remake) is undoubtedly the most fearsome. Opposing the Kraken in this competitive 4-5 matchup is the unnamed monster (oft nicknamed “Clover”) from the 2008 found footage movie Cloverfield. Viewers don’t catch many glimpses of Clover but when they do it’s clear he’s among the biggest and most dangerous monsters in the film canon.

Mothra Region

1. Mothra vs. 8. King Caesar 

Mothra is undoubtedly the most famous monster to come out of Toho’s kaiju films aside from Godzilla himself. As her name implies, Mothra is an enormous flying insect inspired by the “imagos” of silkworms. While many of the monsters in this bracket are destructive and villainous by default, Mothra is actually pretty chill and at times darn near heroic. Furred weirdo King Caesar draws the unenviable task of taking Mothra down.

2. Slattern (Pacific Rim) vs. 7. Pateesa (Star Wars)

Aside from the sprawling Godzilla franchise, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim provides the most potential monster candidates for this list. Given that they’re all confined to one film, however (and make no mistake: there is only one Pacific Rim movie), we’ve opted to choose the most powerful PR kaiju to represent them all. That honor goes to Slattern, the biggest and baddest subterranean monster our heroes encounter. In the other corner is the Rancor (named Pateesa) from Star Wars – Return of the Jedi. Pateesa can be pretty fearsome…as long as there are no gate doors above him.

3. Cthulhu vs. 6. Monster X

H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu is one of the most terrifying monsters in all of literature. In fact, Cthulhu’s appearance is said to be incomprehensible and enough to drive men mad. Well, movies and television have had little issue depicting the Great Old One, with him frequently appearing as a squid monster in everything from 2020’s Underwater to a series of South Park episodes. Lovecraft’s version of Cthulhu would probably be unbeatable, but the film and TV version of him is a fair match. It’s up to Monster X, a skeletal kaiju from 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, to take Cthulhu down. 

4. Smaug (The Hobbit) vs. 5. Gwoemul (The Host)

Most of the monsters in this tournament fall a bit short of human intelligence. That is not the case for The Hobbit’s massive dragon Smaug. Smaug is a clever fire drake and possibly the last great dragon in Middle-Earth. He can cause some real destruction, if he can be bothered to leave his treasures unguarded. Meanwhile, Gwoemul is the creature from Bong Joon-ho’s 2006 The Host. It’s also quite smarter than any fish monster has a right to be. 

Rodan Region

1. Rodan vs. 8. Demon (Night of the Demon)

When it comes to Monster Madness battles, the ability to fly is never a bad thing. And that’s partially what makes Toho all-star Rodan so effective. Rodan is one of the Godzilla studio’s “big five” alongside Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla. That place of honor is well-earned for the irradiated Pteranodon. Rodan has the strength and the skill to go far in this tourney. The eight-seed that will try to stop him is the demon from 1957 British horror film Night of the Demon. Like the Cloverfield monster, this demon is little-scene but still quite powerful. 

2. Gamera vs. 7. Zigra

If you want a sleeper monster on this bracket, look no further than Gamera. This giant prehistoric turtle is a mainstay in kaiju movies and is often known as “The Friend of All Children” or “The Guardian of the Universe.” Alongside Mothra, he is one of the very few monsters willing to stick up for the little guy. His competition, Zigra, on the other hand is a total dirtbag. Gamera and Zigra’s matchups go way back to the 1971 film Gamera vs. Zigra. Gamera handled Zigra quite easily then. Can the loveable terrapin succeed again? 

3. Megalon vs. 6. Gyaos

Megalon is a mainstay of monster comics who has also enjoyed a couple of film appearances. He’s yet another insectoid-style kaiju but he also brings some awesome drill arms to the table. Opposing Megalon this round will be Gyaos. Gyaos is a bat-like kaiju who first got a shot at monster-stardom in 1967’s Gamera vs. Gyaos. He was treated quite shabbily in that but perhaps he has a shot against this new opponent. 

4. Gigan vs. 5. Reptilicus

This bracket already had some alien cyborg representation with Mechagodzilla but you know what they say “you can never have enough alien cyborgs.” Thankfully, Gigan is around. This red-eyed, be-chromed monster first appeared in the 1972 film Godzilla vs. Gigan. He’s since popped up in several more movies to give Godzilla a hard time. The monster that hopes to take Gigan down is Reptilicus, a sea serpent, who hails from a 1961 Danish-American movie bearing his name.

The End of an Era - September 2017 Banlist

Longform analysis of the previous format and banlist under the cut.  I haven’t read any other analyses of the banlist prior to writing this, so the material underneath is all original.  It’s also my first impressions, so bear with me if I forgot a few details here and there.

The past few formats of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG have been extremely diverse and creative, with a great number of decks competing for the #1 spot... of being the second best deck after Zoodiacs, who, according to Yugiohtopdecks, are now the most represented deck of all time in terms of topping tournaments. It would not be an understatement to say that it is possibly the strongest non-FTK deck ever created, and by far the most consistent. In case you missed that somehow, here's a list of just some of the ways Zoodiacs have impacted the metagame (Take a shot every time I mention a unique support card for an entirely different archetype if you want to get wasted really quickly):

It was figured out fairly quickly that any Rank 3 engine would be able to summon any Zoodiac from the deck through M-X-Saber Invoker. There are a few good 1-card Rank 3 engines in the game right now, but all of the unlimited generic ones use a normal summon--because the only one that didn't, Speedroid Terrortop, got limited as a result of its use in this deck.  (Note that Speedroid Taketomborg, the monster which Terrortop searches to make a rank 3, is not a “Garnet” in the sense that the entire engine fails if you draw it. Drawing both still makes the Rank 3 without eating your normal summon.)

In addition, Fire Fromation - Tenki could search any monster in the deck, since Zoodiacs were also all level 4 Beast-Warriors. This got the card briefly Limited in the OCG.  (Note that the deck already had three copies of Ratpier and three copies of Barrage, which could pop itself to summon Ratpier from the deck, so in effect, the deck ended up with 12 cards that searched or summoned Ratpier before Ratpier was Semi-Limited on the next list after the archetype’s release.)

Upon release, a Rank 8 spam variant was discovered with Coach Captain Bearman. Zoodiacs had access to an 8-axis and it turned out to be suboptimal.  Keep in mind the once-per-turn 1-material summon for each of the Zoodiac Extra Deck monsters does not mention Level; it only has to be a Zoodiac monster.

Elder Entity Norden was used in most decks (including Zoo for a time) as an Instant Fusion target to make a quick Rank 4. Later variants after Chakanine's release used Zoodiac Broadbull to search Lunalight Black Sheep, which you could discard to search Fusion Substitute and repeatedly Fusion Summon Elder Entity Norden in order to repeatedly make Daigusto Emeral, which, in so many words, allowed Zoodiacs to draw 5 cards off of one Speedroid Terrortop (or plus similarly hard off of Barrage), which would surely include powerful hand traps like Maxx “C”/Ash Blossom/Ghost Ogre/etc. This was finally the tipping point for Norden in the TCG, as he was Forbidden on the June 2017 emergency banlist soon after. Note that the OCG had already banned him by the time Zoodiacs were released. (Also note that this would not stop players from griping about drawing Speedroid Taketomborg.)

Even after Norden was banned, the deck was by far the most powerful deck in the format. Paleozoics had a decent matchup, but fell by the wayside as True Draco appeared, towering over Zoodiacs in terms of raw power but not in terms of consistency (and eventually a hybrid of both took first at the NAWCQ). Forgotten cards like Shuffle Reborn and My Body as a Shield saw serious play in preparation for the Zoodiac mirror, while cards like Dimensional Barrier and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit fell off and quickly reappeared once people figured out the deck wasn’t going anywhere. Targeted destruction was considered powercrept until this deck appeared. They even started appearing as engines in rogue top decks like Lightsworn and Pendulum Magicians. Even after getting banlisted twice, even after people started maindecking Droll & Lock Bird, and even after Links, the deck prevailed. (In the OCG, it still managed to appear after Barrage and Drident got banned and Ratpier got Limited by abusing the card advantage off of Broadbull to work as a stun deck. Or so I heard.)  Eventually, and without question, Zoodiacs created a Tier 0 format.

Until today, that is. Took them long enough! Let’s get into the cards.

Forbidden:

Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter

I’ll mention this alongside Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior since they both have similar effects, although the latter was Limited. This is a fairly straightforward hit to the True Draco deck’s access to quick and cheap card advantage on the opponent’s turn. Ignis and Dinomight were not the strongest cards in the deck, but they added a lot to the deck’s consistency.

Grandsoil The Elemental Lord

This card creates a bunch of FTKs off of Firewall Dragon and is played in virtually no other decks. Dino FTK got Top 32 at YCS Toronto recently, and Konami has never been kind to FTK decks ever since they let Frog Burn win worlds. Ugh.

True King Lithosagym, The Disaster

The True Kings were not exactly the new-age Dragon Rulers people expected them to be. In fact, they (mostly Lithosagym) only saw play in one deck: True King Yang Zing Dinosaurs, which eventually won Worlds this year. And we all know how Konami feels about decks that manage to win Worlds.

There was a pretty long combo that let you consistently pop two Babycerasaurus to summon this thing, letting you banish cards from your opponent’s Extra Deck for doing something you would have happily done already. It also made up half of the materials for True King of All Calamities, a boss monster that actually has no hand trap counter short of Psy-Framegear Gamma, which saw play for partially this reason (and for other handtraps, but...). I’m glad to see this gone.

Denglong, First of the Yang Zing

Denglong was usually the other part of True King of All Calamities, since you could change his level to 9 by dumping any of the True Kings into your Graveyard. He also led to a 1-card double Quasar negate combo off of one Souleating Oviraptor (or Fossil Dig, or basically any way to summon Oviraptor). I really doubt Yang Zings will be playable after this, but Yang Zing Dinos needed to get hit for sure and I guess this is one way to do it.

Daigusto Emeral

Wait, what the fuck?

...

Seriously? Gusto have a banned card now? Who thought they had it in them.

The Gusto archetype has never made much of a splash competetively, but they eventually got a generic Rank 4 (that they can barely use) in the form of Daigusto Emeral, which was a key part of the Zoodiac Fusion Substitute combo... which was totally wiped out last banlist. The deck still ran two copies for a while after, but eventually once Link Summoning came around, the space just wasn’t there. Few decks run it at all nowadays.

Which makes its appearance here all the more confusing. Seriously, Konami, what the fuck?

Zoodiac Broadbull/Zoodiac Drident

The era is over. Broadbull was a free +1 and Drident added another threat to any board. The best cards in the best deck ever are gone. Or so we hope.

Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior

Miscellaneousaurus

A monster that gives Dinos protection during the Main Phase, recursion from grave, a free engine to summon a level 1 Tuner from deck, and an easy way to build up a huge Tyranno Infinity when needed. Miscellaneousaurus did all this and more. The OCG hit Oviraptor instead, so I’m surprised this got hit, but either one hurts the deck a lot (although I think Oviraptor is the stronger of the two).

Zoodiac Ratpier

A card that summons itself as an engine was just a great idea, wasn’t it? Now the material effect is completely unusable, so Ratpier is just an archetypal Foolish Burial on legs. How the mighty have fallen.

Dark Hole/Interrupted Kaiju Slumber

This is an interesting one. Slumber was obvious because it was another two copies of Dark Hole that synergized with the Kaijus that everyone would have run regardless, but Dark Hole at 2 has been a thing for a while. For what it’s worth, getting hit by this hurt a lot if your board consisted of the only Link Monsters your deck had the space for, but if that was that huge of a concern, they’d have hit Raigeki too. Hmm.

Gateway of the Six

Six Samurai managed to top at a Portland regional some time last year. I don’t know how, but the guy who did is an absolute hero. Otherwise, the deck has done nothing for years, and this card is at 3 in the OCG and Six Sams are doing nothing there.

True King’s Return

Archetypal Monster Reborn on a deck that seriously didn’t deserve it.

Semi-Limited:

BLS Envoy of the Beginning

It is weird to say that this card is now completely irrelevant, but here we are.  BLS Envoy has been power crept. What a game. (It’s probably still fun to play around with, though.)

Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer

Luster Pendulum was a free reoccurring +1 after a Pendulum Summon, but that hardly matters now that Extra Deck Pendulum Summons are restricted by the new format. He’ll probably still turn up in Pendulum decks, though; do not take this to mean that the card is bad now.

Mathematician/El Shaddoll Fusion

This got limited because of Shaddolls a long time ago, and that deck has been dead since they hit Construct.

Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier

I have literally only seen this card played in Mermails since its errata. It’s doing nothing at 1 and will do nothing at 2.

T.G. Hyper Librarian

Synchro spam is also more-or-less dead, so this is probably fine coming back as well. Level Eater is still creeping in the distance, however...

Brain Control

Same story as Brionac, has seen no play since its errata.

Burial From a Different Dimension

This has been at 1 for a long time, hasn’t it? I think it was hit because of Zombies or DAD or something.

Keep in mind that Zombies are still quite good right now. This is flirting with danger, Konami... I say as I order two copies for Zombiesworn.

Preparation of Rites

Nekroz hype? That’s the deck that got this limited, and they’re almost playable now that nearly every other deck has been nerfed. We’ll see.

EDIT: This is for Vendreads, don’t know how I didn’t realize this immediately.

EDIT 2: Vendreads don’t use this card, what am I saying.  This is for other decks.

Debris Dragon/Dragon Ravine

Remnants from the Dragon Rulers banlist. These haven’t seen play in a while at 2, probably won’t at 3.

Honest

This used to be quite the hand trap, but battle hand traps, much like battle traps other than Mirror Force, have fallen by the wayside.

It’s still worth considering for the surprise factor, IMO. Who still runs Honest in 2017!?

Rescue Cat/Witch of the Black Forest

More cards that have seen no play since their erratas.

Rescue Rabbit

Holy shit.

This card is still way too good.

I think this is supposed to tell us to go buy World Chalice, but this is the nuttiest way to go about doing that I could possibly imagine.

Rank 4 spam card that’s seen less and less play lately.

Charge of the Light Brigade

This has been Semi-Limited for a long time due to its use as a mill engine with Lumina/Raiden. Putting it at 3 helps Lightsworns, obviously, but it also helps Infernoids, too. Not significantly enough for either of them to become tier 1 again (probably), but still, it’s appreciated.

Wavering Eyes

Hardly relevant, since Pendulum mirrors don’t happen much and decks aren’t so focused on popping their own scales. Back in the day, though, Konami made a huge mistake printing this as a common.

EDIT: I could not possibly have been more wrong. This card should not have been unhit, holy shit. Pendulum mirrors are actually everywhere since the deck’s only expensive card is Duelist Alliance and this card is too fucking good.

Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King

The True Draco boss monster, often cited for his poor design, is still obscenely powerful.

Dragonic Diagram

The True Draco Field Spell, which let you pop a card in hand or on field to search a True Draco spell/trap once per turn and gives Tribute Summoned True Draco monsters battle protection once per turn. This card seriously does too much.

Did you know that Diagram dropped to $20 per copy in anticipation that it would get hit by the banlist? It used to be $60.

EDIT: There is currently a listing for a $1 copy of this card, but you have to buy a $420 Ghost Beef in order to get it. Now that’s value.

Maxx “C”

This card is the sackiest card in the game right now. It singlehandedly wins games going second, and has done so so many times in high-level tournament play that I was sure it’d get hit. Even the OCG put it to 2. It looks like it’s still around, but who knows for how long.

Card of Demise

A key draw card of some Chain Burn and some True Draco variants, Card of Demise is a nearly free +2 for any deck that doesn’t Special Summon during their turn, or any deck with a lot of backrow. Many players, myself included, are frustrated with this card’s design and the playstyle it promotes, but Konami didn’t hit it at all here.

Trickstar Reincarnation

Independent of any synergies with the rest of the archetype, comboing this with Droll & Lock Bird makes your opponent banish their entire hand and draw nothing in return. This is still legal; Konami has decided that this is totally okay.

Kill me.

That about wraps it up. This next format is going to be crazy. Or maybe it’ll just be True Draco again, who knows.

The next set, Circuit Break, comes out in the TCG on October 20th (Sneak Peek on 14th/15th), and the next banlist comes in November at the soonest.  If True Draco doesn’t come back from this, it will be an interesting month until SPYRALs take over the meta entirely (as is likely to happen, given their results in the OCG.)
